Christmas Party and xc skiing

Thanks to Marco for throwing a sweet Christmas party. He is leaving us and trying something else other than cooking. Virginia is where he is going and damn I envy him. Well if things work out for him there maybe we'll all go to visit.
With all this snow many of us have been doing lots of X-C skiing. Rick and I were out last night and Swallow Cliff is great for the skiing. The route back from the stairs is the best time and makes it all worth it. Nice gentle rollers and plenty of snow make for excellent conditions. Even at 14 degrees it was great.

Sweet Woods/Turkey Day

Saturday Stan, Matt, Burak, Ed, Rick, Beth, Cyndi, Terry, John from Team Sally, and I rode Sweet Woods, Brunnell, North Creek, and the A frame trail. There is a bunch of fun new stuff that has been built out there. The trails were in damn fine shape a little sloppy in a couple of places but otherwise a beautiful day with the temps almost 50 it really couldn't get much better for late November.
Thursday John, Rick, Roger, Anne, Cyndi, Beth, Marco and I Rode in the 12 degree cold. What a huge difference from Saturday. Everything was frozen and we did a nice loop. Thanks to Marco for the wonderful Breakfast after the ride. I know you all know that it was fantastic. GO TEAM AMERICA! DERKA-DERKA!

Poker Ride fun

The Poker Ride went off without a hitch it was good fun. It rained like crazy the day before which along with the leaves made things sketchy at best. But we took the usual route down the grass hill thru the old staging area. Thru bad ass hill and over to the Stair Steps. Down Dynamite to the canal. Up the Road to Burrito. To the Out and Back. The Out and Back was in great shape. Down the pipeline to Four Corners and right back out to the Multi. Back to the Pavillion for some fresh grub. Thanks to Marco and Ray for bringing out the good chow. There were 3 groups and no one was hurt. It was a great turnout for what might have been a Craptastic Sunday. The sun came out in the afternoon it was actually damn nice.

Da Poker Ride

Lucky number 13. Looks like 57 and cloudy is the forecast. Not too shabby. Hopefully it won't rain like some are predicting. Just like all the other ones-Lets take people on a ride to remember. This thing happens once a year. Lets do it right. Have fun and don't drop anyone. Bring them all back.

Peoria- Farmdale Fest & rope jumping

PAMBA hosted a wonderfully entertaining event. Red Bull sponsered it and the very down to earth-Shaums March came out to show how cool of a guy he is. Friday night was the night ride. The downhill and mountain cross was on Saturday. Saturday night we found a new night time activity- Jumping Rope. Glow sticks attached to the middle of the rope made for an interesting sight I'm sure. We made it up to 13 and out before the game was called. The Cross Country Race was on Sunday. They ran the course in reverse of the August race. Which felt a bit odd for me on my first lap. Getting a tooth pulled the day before and part of my jaw filed down so the gum would grow over didn't help much with my balance. But I needed it. I just had to race. So did everyone else. Burak placed 2nd in his division and Beth took 2nd and Anne 3rd. You guys rock. Ed, Rick, Roger and John also raced this weekend. Cyndi, Koko, Pam and Paul also hung out. A very nice turnout indeed. Thanks.

Ohjibwe Group shot.

Bruce Mound, Chequamegon and Bag Slappin...

Reckless went to the Northwoods for the Chequamegan Fat Tire Fest. Pictures will be up later. Here is the Write up.
For results and stuff go here- http://cheqfattire.com/

We stayed Thursday night in Black River Falls and took over the jaccuzzi- for the Super 8's pool area is open til 2am. Sweet.
Next day we woke to Stan showing a group of older gals on their way to a quilting convention how to use the Waffle Maker in the lobby. He had the whole group of them giggling. It just made my day. After we ate we headed out for Bruce Mound.
At this point Burak, Stan, Beth, Marco, Ed, Cyndi, Tony, Dustin, and Gee were in full effect.
I hadn't been to the place since Pedros. This place is just Beautiful. The Hermosas, Yellowjacket, Toad Road, Cliffhanger, Porcupine peak, Dead Turkey and of course Goat Dance just got the juices going enough to realize that we were'nt going back to Ill noize with out 80-100 miles of riding some of the sweetest trails in the midwest. The bicycle smiles were on everyones faces as we got back to the lot for some quick rehydration and to hook up with Rick who took "a short cut" which almost always gets him in trouble.
On the road again to the Cabin in Cable. Stopped off to grab food for the team and dropped like 200 bucks on two cartloads of food. Then another 100 or so in the liquor dept. The supermarket looked happy to see us. We made sure as to buy the food and stuff from Hayward. To help support their economy. This fest is important to them and theres nothing better than to spread a little love to those folks who close off their Streets, Trails and Volunteer a weekend to us so we can have a good time.
Big ol thanks to the towns of Hayward, Seeley, and Cable.
Friday Night was a party. Marco fed us. Marco is one Fantastic man. He always does the cooking. He just rocks. Here's to you Marco.
There was Bag slappin and stupid human tricks and well what happens in Wisconsin will stay in Wisconsin. Ann and Roger made it. They were on tour for a few weeks-Some of their stops included Fruita, Durango, Moab, Tour De Fat and Crusty Butt. Sounds like they had a blast, those two are very thoughtful. They brought back a little piece of their trip for all that made it to CFTF. A BIG THANK YOU TO ROGER AND ANNIE FOR ALL THE GIFTS. Okay on to the races-
Uh well people were moving a little slow. Imagine that. We had Rick, Ed, and Tony doing the Forty- We made it there 10 minutes to 10. Which means we'll be starting behind 1700 people. Fun. But it was still a blast. Thanks for getting us there in time.
Beth, Cyndi, Marco, Roger and Anne doing the Short and Fat. There were no mechanicals and everyone was smiling when it was over. We sat on the side of the ski hill for a while a visited with friends and others.
Anne got the podium for 3rd in the Womens Singlespeed in her Division. Congratulations.
That evening went by kind of in uneventful. The rest of the crew rode Rock Lake. So they were equally worn out. Marco made some delicious pasta and sausage and took it easy. The two kids Dustin and Gee did go and find an adventure tho. Ask one of us about it some day. It was BEARLY believable. (YES THATS A PUN)
Sunday everyone headed to Telemark for the Ohjibwe trail and some did the rough cut rendevous. I think Anne got 3rd and Roger 4th. Congratulations. The rest went and rode what IMBA has tagged one of the best in the Midwest. It was truly a great singletrack trail. If you love singletrack you would love it. We got back from riding and the Telemark was almost empty. We hung out and talked about what to do for dinner and made fun of Cooter Bones. (don't ask) What a wonderfully relaxing day for the group. We ended up going to Lakewoods for a feast. That place rocks.
Woke up on Monday with plans for riding on the way home but rain had invaded the North. So we just headed back home.
Well another Fat Tire Fest has come and gone. Next big outing for the team I think will be Farmdale Fest in Peoria. If any one is interested -Sunburst Showdown is this weekend. Check the WORS site for details. Thanks to everyone who pitched in and made this trip so enjoyable. Can't wait til next year.

Kewaunee and stuff

Okay I've decided that "sweet singletrack" is a relative term. Can anyone say bumpy ass cow field mowed to make singletrack that bakes in the hot sun with 2-3 miles of okay singletrack. Well some of the whoopdees were fun but they were linked by crappy atv trails and wasn't worth the drive. Oh well. Note to self- skip kewaunee next year. Sounds like John S. pulled enough rock out of stone temple for some of the armoring of the new trails. Word has it that there was a road trip down to Bloomington where I hear some singletrack with 20 or so jumps exist.
Chequamegon is 6 days away. Is everyone going to make it up by Friday for an afternoon ride somewhere? New singletrack maybe.

Pando and Workday

Well Rich and Al did Pando a few weeks ago. Rich's eleventh year doing it.
Here is what Rich had to say:
AL was 13th and Rich was 12th, 19 total in are age group, 30-49.4.2 mile laps, we both did 14 laps each....yeah I know, bunch ofpanisies....really great time though.

There is also a workday on the 11th. So again-too many frickin options.

Are you a DORC?

The DORC race is 9/11 in Naperville. We could have a good showing for this one. Its always good to support the local race. Whos in?

Kewaunee XC Adventure 9/11

This is the next WORS race. Its 3 1/2 hours or so I here there is over ten miles of sweet singletrack there. Between the venue and Riverview Park.

Alterra Coffee Classic and The Psycho Century

This was a great course. The singletrack was tons of fun. It took me an hour and a half to ge there. It was super close. I believe its open for riding pretty much except if its snowing which then it would be a ski area. But if you get a chance check it out.
A few particpated in the century. Great training for Chequamegon. I kind of wish I would've gotten in on some of that. Rick tore his shoulder up after the work day on Saturday. Heres to a speedy recovery.

Here is the Palos picnic.

PAMBA had a good turnout.

PAMBA Farmdale Frenzy

Burak placed 2nd in the sport XC. Anne did too.(Well except in the Womens category) Congratulations. Many others participated also. Rick, Roger, Tony, all had fun. The downhill and the Mountain Cross was on Sunday. I was not on hand to see it. But I think Matt did pretty well. There aren't any results up on the PAMBA site-lets just say Matt, Stan, Burak and probably others had fun doing the freeride portion of the weekend.

Tuesday, August 23, 2005

Alterra Coffee Classic

This race is a close one- you get free coffee, and you can be home in time for the Simpsons. There are new sections of singletrack here and group rides every Wednesday. Its just outside of Milwaukee and if your not busy everyone should try to check it out. check out www.wors.org for more info.

Monday, August 08, 2005

So many options...

Well this weekend had nothing going on-(due to no 12 hours of Palos) and next weekend has a WORS race the (Calumet Sun Run) in Hilbert , WI with dual slalom on Saturday and XC on Sunday. Next Weekend its PAMBA.

24/9 report

What can I say???? No Ken Benny or Benny Kenny or whatever his name was. Team reckless was there we had some fun, we suffered, we laughed, uh no crying this time sorry folks. (thanks to Tim going out for the last lap) We ended up 6th in the four man sport. The competition was a bit stiffer this year I had one crappy night lap and got stung by a hornet which I went to the doc and I'm okay but my arm swelled up pretty good on Monday. Only one flat which Tim changed and probably still had a faster lap than I pulled. But no worries it was still fun I think we'll be back next year. Rick went solo for 12 hours. I think he did pretty well. Except for the broken S.A.S.S. (Aren't you a little old to be riding a bike?) ha ha. Thanks to Marco, Beth and Cecily for hanging out with us. Oso and his buddy came too. Burak, Ed, Tim we'll conquer next time. Hey you know what-maybe we'll train for this thing next year. Yeah right, maybe we'll go for the 5 person open and add a ringer??? Roger?? Matt???? someone? anyone? Yeah you got to be crazy to go for 24 hours. Well so long.
Oh by the way-Who went to DORC and where is our race report?
Roger got 8th and Anne got 3rd at D.O.R.C. Thanks, and great job you guys..

Wors Cup Report

Well it was hot but we had a great showing...Anne, Burak, Marco, Rick, Roger, Stan, Tim and Tony all raced and Ed, Matt and Beth were support. (Or maybe just came to watch us suckas ride and sweat) What a Blast!. Stan medaled in the Super "D" and then Sunday he couldn't figure out how the race actually worked and went out for another lap. Saturday was a hilarious. Team reckless took over the pools of Devils Head. Oh and the whirlpools and the sauna. We pissed some fat lady off. Then some guy from Ohio came over and got all Gamma on us. We ate well. Breakfast was done up right-Saturday by Rick then Sunday by Stan. We ate tons of sausage and drank plenty. Tim showed on Sunday after plenty of bets that he wasn't going to show. 24-9 is next. GAMMA GO!

Ode to the firecracker

Well it was far but worth it. Didn't care so much about the race and had a blast. I think 8th? 11th out of 34 still not terrible for a ride that I smiled for most of. No big hills very clydesdale friendly 'cept I like hills. Strangely I'm still in 1st for the series. Beth grabbed 177 points for her volunteer points. Nice- shes still in 6th. Tim your in 14th. Burak 12th you'll be back in the top ten after this race. Tim you could too if you race.... Wors Cup this weekend. Lets GOOOOOOOOOOO!

Big Ring Classic Report

Nine Mile is one of my favorite places to ride. Anywhere. Period. Its beautiful. Until a deer knocks you off your bike and sends your kneecap into your stem and cracks it in two. No not any of us, but one of the elite riders had this happen to them. Ouch.

So anyway-Fun is what we had and we had 5 venture up to Wausau for this race.
Beth had a great time finished 5th and is ranked 6th for the series. Burak had a crash that took him down a notch but finished a respectable 16th in a tough age group. Being 6th in the series-He was called up to a preferred start and this may have gotten to his head and went down in the early stages. ;) Tim finished 10th and is ranked 11th in the series. Johnathan a.k.a Johnny U.K. was 17th in his tough age group. Tony was 3rd and is still 1st in his category for the series. If you haven't ridden Nine Mile Forest yet you need to go. Its a beautiful place. Peace

Race report for Rome Around.

By far this was the most fun course I've done in WORS. Team reckless was the shizzle bo- dizzle in the new jerseys. Thanks Cyndi. You could just see the fear and loathing of the word reckless accross the front of the jersey. It is just great.
First race over 80 degrees. They had cold wet rags for us as we finished.
Results are up. Beth was 7th. Burak was 11th. Tim was 17th. (mechanical) Bike and Body. Tony grabbed 3rd. Anyhow- series standing are up. Beth is 6th for the series. Burak is in 6th! Thats damn good. And after 2 races Tim is already up to 15th. Tony-well I'm in 1st Place Yahooooo.
Well I hope everyone can make it to Nine Mile Forest. Fathers Day weekend. We can camp Friday-Saturday. Lets go on a night ride Friday. Ride all day Saturday then Race Sunday. Can't wait to GGOOOOOOOOOO! You save five bucks if you register by this weekend. check out www.wors.org for details.

Rome Around Next Weekend 6-5-05

Alright anyone wanting to sign up for the series they will count one race retroactively. At this time it looks like Beth, Burak, Tim and Tony are in. The AmeriInn in Plover is very reasonable. Around 50 a night with good conti breakfast. If any one else is interested in getting in post a comment and we'll get it figured out. Word on the street is the climbs are minor. Kind of a breath of fresh air compared to Alpine hopefully. Beth is 6th Place in Points. Burak is 8th in series points. I am still 3rd Place in points. Anyone signing up for races- For uniformity sake-reckless racing-Go Fast! is the name of the team. Tim if you start now you would most likely be in contention for top spot in your class. Next race Burak will be top 3- Thats a prediction but it could happen. Beth you will be in the same boat with Burak after this week.7,6, 5, 4,.... GGOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I can't wait to go.

Alpine Crew

Alpine Valley

Tough Race. Fun-But Tough. Team reckless was in full effect. Anne, Beth, Burak, Ed., John S., U.k. Johnny, Roger, Tim, Tony and Rick were all there. Thanks to Roger and Anne for the huge encouragement to finsh the race. We wouldn't of done as well without you. John S., Rick, and Tim all took 5th Place in their categories. Beth did great and took 4th in her divsion. U.K. Johnny took 15th out of 32 in a very tough division. Burak took 17th out of 37 racers. Ed D. grabbed a 6th place finish. Tony grabbed an 8th place finish after a difficult mechanical. Great job by all! Burak and I are planning to go up to Wiscosin Rapids for Rome Around next weekend. If you can't make it thats okay. Let see how many we could get to Nine Mile Forest for The Big Ring Classic. We can camp Friday and Saturday. It'll be a nice warm up to 24/9.

Buraks first WORS race. It was a great course and had fun. We got free potatoes. Burak placed 8th in his age group. Damn Good for his 1st Wors race he is a hammer. He finished his 3 laps 3 minutes faster than mine. I ended with 2nd in my age and 3rd overall in a field of 24. It was fun. Alpine Valley is this week. I hope everyone can make it.

it seems to be working now. Rain Sucks.

For some reason

There is a problem with making this a team blog but sooner or later it will start to work. It seems this blogger crap is a bit fussy and they are constantly trying to update and fix stuff so give it a few days I guess. I'll try to do something else too.
